Prawns are obtained from both wild-caught and farmed sources. In Australia, species such as King, Tiger and Banana prawns are your typical wild-caught, whilst Vannamei are available from farmed sources. Both sectors have strong sustainability credentials. KB Seafood Co own and operate a number of vessels in the Shark Bay region of Western Australia which is a world heritage site renowned for having some of the cleanest water in the world. KB Seafood Co is delighted to bring you the world’s best Shark Bay wild caught King and Tiger Prawns direct from our fleet.
Shark Bay King and Tiger Prawns
The Shark Bay Fishery (WA) is known for its clean “white” Raw King Prawns which are highly sought after around the world. The fishing season typically runs from mid-March to mid-October. Shark Bay King Prawns are generally sold in a raw state due to the “White” cleanliness of these prawns. When cooked these prawns are paler in colour compared to the South Australian or Exmouth Prawn. There are 18 vessels fishing in Shark Bay and KB Seafood Co owns 3 of them. KB Seafood Co procures product from all vessels in the fishery. The Shark Bay Fishery has Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification and is an Australian Export registered Fishery.
